Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Office offers fingerprinting services for the general public who are required to submit them for job application, licensing, etc., as well as pre-employment fingerprinting for both Minnehaha County and the City of Sioux Falls.
An appointment is necessary to have your fingerprints taken. You can make your appointment online. If you need assistance, please call (605) 367-4300 to schedule an appointment.
Persons requesting fingerprinting services will be required to provide identification as a method of verifying an individual’s identity. Copies, photographs, or expired forms of identification will not be accepted.
As a primary form of photo identification, current forms of one of following documents will need to be presented by an individual when being fingerprinted:
- State-Issued Driver’s License or ID Card
- U.S. Passport or U.S. Passport Card
- Military Identification Card
- Work Visa with Photo
- Global Entry Card
- Native American Tribal ID Card
- Permanent Resident Card (I-551)
- Employment Authorization Card (I-765)
- Foreign Passport with Appropriate Immigration Documents
However, in the absence of a primary form of photo identification, individuals may provide at least 2 secondary identification documents from the following list:
- State Government Issued Birth Certificate
- U.S. Tribal or Bureau of Indian Affairs ID Card
- Social Security Card
- School ID with Photo
- Court Order for Name Change/Gender Change/Adoption/Divorce
- Marriage Certificate (Government Issued Certificate)
- Certificate of Citizenship (N-560)
- Replacement Certificate of Citizenship (N-561)
- Certificate of Naturalization (N-550)
- Replacement Certificate of Naturalization (N-570)
** To assist with validating the authenticity of secondary identification documents, MCSO may request supporting current documents such as: utility bill, voter registration card, vehicle registration, or paycheck stub.
If you are signing up to be fingerprinted for an Enhanced Pistol Permit, new or renewal, and have not already submitted your firearms course certificate online, you will also need to bring the certificate from the firearms course that you have completed.
Most fingerprints are collected using a computer-based printing software that does not require ink. Fingerprint cards are provided for those who do not have their own. Please do not write on any print cards as the software prints the information in the boxes appropriately.
